Jordi Kerr

creator and curator of stories

Facilitation, and youth literature advocacy are my areas of specialisation. I offer a range of services across these areas- from chairing conversations, to running workshops, to sensitivity reading services for manuscripts. Commonly requested services are:

Panel Chairing

'Science vs Magic' - Jordi Kerr referees an epic literary showdown between Sean Williams and Jaclyn Moriarty.

Curating an interesting conversation on stage requires not just preparation, but intuition, authenticity, and curiosity.

I've moderated panel discussions, refereed debates, and interviewed authors at the Melbourne Writers Festival, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Australia's Reading Matters conference, and the National Young Writers' Festival. Whether you have an audience of twenty or twelve-hundred, of adults, young people, or a mix of all ages, I'd be delighted to facilitate an engaging event with them.

BETA and sensitivity READING

Not sure if your YA story is hitting the sweet spots? A beta read will check your plot for pacing and structure, and your characters for consistency and believability. I can also provide sensitivity reading on representations of same-sex attraction, and gender diverse characters.

TESTIMONIALS

'Working with Jordi is an absolute delight. They’re thoughtful, well-prepared, well-informed, and takes excellent care of their panellists. They communicates clearly in advance, always takes the conversation to interesting places, and balances the discussion well. I'd recommend them as a chair or moderator without hesitation. I've worked with them several times, and when I see their name on the list, I simply relax -- I know everything will go smoothly.'

'My experience of Jordi Kerr as a chairperson/panel moderator has been exceptionally positive…
Jordi was extremely well-prepared and initiated timely discussion via email of each panel's subject matter. In one panel the subject matter was political, in the other it was technical in nature. Jordi’s communications to panel members demonstrated the well-researched, thoughtful ground work they had done on both topics. This meant that when the panels started we were able to hit the ground running, because we’d already had productive 'warm up' exchanges.
On stage they are confident and well-prepared with a warm, relaxed manner. They moderate discussion with ease and fluency. All the support materials for the sessions were organised with plenty of advance notice. In each case, their hard work paid off with successful and lively panel discussions.'

'I've been fortunate enough to be on a number of panels hosted by Jordi. I'm always impressed by their easy rapport with an audience and their gift for making panellists (many of whom are more at home staring at the page than being stared at by a large crowd) comfortable. A large part of this comes from the knowledge that Jordi is the sort of host whose research always goes beyond the obvious and that their questions will take a discussion into surprising, revealing and fascinating territory.'
